The Origin of Domes
Among many other things, we stand for a new way of being and living. We search alternatives to our personal lives, and in this quest we get close to ideas that produce an evolution in the way humanity sees life, that gives back again the sensitivity to recognise the real state of the world and the thousands possibilities that exist – for the one that search’s! – to place all the humankind in a more Natural, Prosperous and Happy course… Through this walk, we came to the Domes .
Domes are geodesic structures (spherical or half-spherical) whose original idea was born with a great gentleman by the name of R. Buckminster Fuller. Fuller, an inventor, architect, engineer, mathematician and cosmologist, was above all a Great Humanist, worried about the uncurling of global events in the world that affect all beings that inhabit it. Thinker and a visionary, Fuller accurately foresaw several episodes of human history uncurl, half a century on its front, and was considered by many as the father of Planetary Consciousness.
Focused on the higher purpose of creating solutions more simple and accessible to all human beings, Fuller studied and recreated the structure of Geodesic Domes from a replication of the coordination system common to all spheres found in the Nature, from planets to molecules, and by the understanding that gravitation forces are spherical and not linear.
His designs stepped over the integrity of any architectural structure made until then, and in 1970 he was rewarded by the American Institute of Architects, being claimed that the Geodesic Dome is the most resistant, lighter and efficient mean to cover a surface, known by man.
In the Internet you can be easily found documentaries and videos about the amazing resistance of Domes to all kind of natural disasters (see this video Canadian Wooden Domes), one of the most relevant attributes of these structures. Over it, we can then add creativity, beauty and harmony to the simple purpose of covering a space for a wide range of activities (inhabit, workshop place, meditation room, playground space, etc)
By the way, if you are curios and also a Humanist, we recommend you to read the book “Operating Manual for Spaceship Earth” by R. Buckminster Fuller, where you can sense the soul and motivations behind the quest for this and many others inventions, so important to the merging of a new way of Living on planet Earth.
